About Kirstin E. Menzies
I welcome the opportunity to assist my clients in settling their separation and divorce issues, as efficiently as possible, on their own terms, all while retaining control of the process. If you are looking for a mediator or divorce lawyer, who is both compassionate and effective, I invite you to contact me to schedule a consultation. I can help you find the process that is best suited to resolving your unique separation.
I graduated with distinction from the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology prior to attending law school at the University of British Columbia. After living and working in the Vancouver area for 10 years following law school, in 2017 I returned home to Vancouver Island and established Menzies Family Law in Victoria.
I am experienced and skilled as an advocate, having appeared in both the Provincial and Supreme Courts of British Columbia in separation and divorce cases. However, I observed that going to court, although sometimes necessary, often produced disappointing results for families. The adversarial process can further fuel existing conflict. So, I decided to pursue further training, and since 2013 have been qualified as a Family Law Mediator and Collaborative Law Professional. I was admitted as a member of the BC Collaborative Roster Society in 2015, which requires both training and experience, and a commitment to continuing education and work annually, in Collaborative Practice.
I have extensive experience in negotiated and Collaborative settlements of family law cases involving parenting arrangements, division of family assets and debts, and support issues. I also assist my clients with estate and incapacity planning, including the preparation of Wills, Powers of Attorney, and Representation Agreements.
I live in the West Shore of Victoria, BC, and am able to serve clients throughout Greater Victoria, Vancouver Island, and Vancouver. I’m a mother of two young children and my favourite things include their laughter, coffee, rare moments of solitude, and being outside near the water.
