Kirstin E. Menzies
Collaborative Lawyer & Family Law Mediator
I have practiced family law since my call to the bar of British Columbia in August 2007, focusing on out of court processes since 2013, as I believe that these promote the healthiest outcomes possible for all those involved; in particular, the children.

About Kirstin E. Menzies
I welcome the opportunity to assist my clients in settling their separation and divorce issues, as efficiently as possible, on their own terms, all while retaining control of the process. If you are looking for a mediator or family lawyer, who is both compassionate and effective, I invite you to contact me to schedule a consultation. I can help you find the process that is best suited to resolving your unique separation.
I graduated with distinction from the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology prior to attending law school at the University of British Columbia. After living and working in the Vancouver area for 10 years following law school, in 2017 I returned home to Vancouver Island and established Menzies Family Law in Victoria.
I am experienced and skilled as an advocate, having appeared in both the Provincial and Supreme Courts of British Columbia in separation and divorce cases. However, I observed that going to court, although sometimes necessary, often produced disappointing results for families. The adversarial process can further fuel existing conflict. So, I decided to pursue further training, and since 2013 have been qualified as a Family Law Mediator and Collaborative Law Professional. I was admitted as a member of the BC Collaborative Roster Society in 2015, which requires both training and experience, and a commitment to continuing education and work annually, in Collaborative Practice. I have extensive experience in negotiated, mediated, and Collaborative settlements of family law cases involving parenting arrangements, division of family assets and debts, and support issues.
I live in the West Shore of Victoria, BC, and am able to serve clients throughout Greater Victoria, Vancouver Island, and British Columbia. I’m a mother of two, and my favourite things include my children’s laughter, coffee, rare moments of solitude, and being outside near the water.
